One World Action has always focused on our partners and their needs. We chose to work with emerging women's organisations and people's movements. Our goal was to build their capacity so that they could become independent and sustainable – delivering lasting change without dependence. Some examples:

  • Equality for Growth – a small start-up women's organisation in Tanzania has, with the support of One World Action, developed an innovative project to improve the lives of women market traders in Dar es Salaam. The organisation is now able to receive funding directly, in Tanzania from the UK Department for International Development.
  • Self Employed Women's Association – a long-term partner of One World Action in India, has raised the wages of women home workers in Delhi who are now negotiating directly with global companies such as Monsoon and Gap. T-shirts made by SEWA members, promoting the skills of homeworkers, were sold by New Look throughout the UK.
  • AMUCES – an organisation of blind women in El Salvador established a now profitable massage business in the national airport. As Cecia who works there said, "I now have an income to help my family and I no longer feel like a burden or dependent on my family or the state."

This is evidence of the success of our approach. These partners are now able to generate their own financial resources. We are proud to have worked with them to achieve tangible and sustainable results.
