Women for Change works with and empowers remote rural communities, especially women in Zambia, to contribute towards gender sensitive, sustainable development and the eradication of all forms of poverty. Established in 1991, Women for Change has emerged as a leading rural based development and women’s rights organisation in Zambia.
One World Action supports Women for Change through several projects:
Know Them Demand Them provides practical support to families (particularly women and girls) living with and affected by HIV/AIDS in rural Zambia to improve their health, nutrition and livelihoods.
Positive Rights. Women for Change is part of a programme focused on gender and HIV/AIDS. Activities include: training in women’s rights, gender and HIV/AIDS as well as advocacy for the reformation of discriminatory customary laws.
The Southern Africa Legal Assistance Network (SALAN) was formed in 1994 to promote and protect human rights in Southern African countries. It currently has 11 members working in area of human rights, legal advice and legal assistance.
SALAN is part of a programme focused on gender and HIV/AIDS. It conducts research and information-dissemination on HIV/AIDS legislation in Zambia.
