Malawi

COWLHA is the only Coalition of Women living with HIV/AIDS in Malawi. The Coalition was formed in 2006 to create a united voice for women and girls living with HIV/AIDS with the aim of addressing the challenges affecting them.

One World Action supports COWLHA in strengthening COWLHA’s project and financial management skills and supporting their advocacy activities for the reduction of stigma and discrimination among women living with HIV/AIDS.

MANET+ is the only national network of People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Malawi. Founded in 1997, MANET+ supports and promotes the needs and rights of PLWHA in Malawi.

One World Action supports MANET+ through Our Voice Our Lives, which provides practical support (home-based care, pycho-social counselling, post-test clubs, income generating activities) and advocacy to promote greater involvement of PLWHA in all decisions that affect their lives.

Positive Rights. MANET+ is part of a programme focused on gender and HIV/AIDS. Activities include lobbying for a Parliamentary Committee on HIV/AIDS in Malawi, radio diaries for women living with HIV/AIDS and greater involvement of men in the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission.

The Southern Africa Legal Assistance Network (SALAN) was formed in 1994 to promote and protect human rights in Southern African countries. It currently has 11 members working in area of human rights, legal advice and legal assistance.

SALAN is part of a programme focused on gender and HIV/AIDS. In 2008 SALAN will undertake research, publication and dissemination on HIV/AIDS legislation in Malawi in collaboration with MANET+.
