2000 signatures for MWMP!

MWMP handoverOne World Action capped the first phase of the More Women More Power campaign by delivering close to 2000 postcards to the Department for International Development (DFID) last December 14. The postcards, signed by activists, celebrities and members of the public in the UK and around the world, appeal to DFID to increase aid funding for programmes that promote women’s political participation worldwide.

Parliamentary Undersecretary of State Mike Foster received the postcards on behalf of DFID. Among those who signed the postcard were singers Elaine Page and Gerry Halliwell, television presenter Anna Ford and feminist scholar Germaine Greer.

More Women More Power’s second phase will continue in 2010. For more information, please contact Campaign Co-ordinator Marie Birchall at .

Yes, the map is upside down. We are using the Hobo-Dyer projection. In this kind of map, the shapes of areas in the middle are more accurately rendered and those towards the poles are flattened. Funny how it changes our perceptions of what is central and important in the world.
