More Women More Power Pledge

The signatures gathered for the More Women More Power online pledge will be delivered to the UK Prime Minister in December 2009 on the 30th anniversary of the ratification of CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women).

I believe that it is a matter of justice and democracy that women should be fairly represented in formal political decision-making at local, national, regional and international levels. I believe that that women’s political rights are vital to securing and retaining all other rights and are essential to addressing poverty worldwide. I therefore pledge to advocate measures to advance the full and fair representation of women in my parliament and in international bodies. I pledge to join efforts to demand greater resources to promote women’s political participation. I pledge to push for the immediate implementation of Article 7 of CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women). *
