Ethical policy

One World Action works in Europe and with partner organisations in poor countries to defeat poverty and to promote democracy and respect for human rights. We are working for a just and equal world.

It is our policy not to associate with individuals, companies, groups or organisations whose interests conflict with these broad aims.

By “associate” we mean:

·accepting donations or in kind gifts or services from;

·buying goods or services from;

·forming partnerships or professional links with;

·publicising or otherwise benefiting through the course of our work.

Before associating with any individual, company, group or organisation we will investigate their record on human rights and on the environment. In the case of a Public Limited Company this will be done through use of a professional organisation such as the Ethical Investment Research Service (EIRIS).

We are aware that the activities and management of companies and organisations change from time to time and will take account of this in making our decision.

The ethical backgrounds of other companies, groups and organisations will be investigated through:

·requesting information from the companies themselves;

·company annual reports;

·the companies guides;

·the internet;

·individual telephone research;

One World Action will specifically not associate with individuals or bodies which are involved with armaments, pornography or tobacco or which do not show respect for basic human rights.

When deciding whether or not to associate with an individual or body we will consider whether such an association would cause more harm than good to work and reputation of One World Action. We will also consider the position of our partners.
