The Baroness Kinnock of Holyhead served as Minister of State for Europe in 2009. She is a former Member of European Parliament and President of the ACP-EU Joint Assembly. Has a strong interest in human rights, gender issues and international development. She is a co-founder of One World Action.

Sigmund Sternberg (Vice President Emeritus)

Hungarian-born British philanthropist and business leader, strongly involved in promoting better relations between Muslims, Jews, and Christians as a co-founder of Three Faith Forum.

Richard Attenborough

Actor and film director, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, member of the UK House of Lords, with special interest in issues of children and AIDS in developing countries.

Luis Ayala

Secretary General of Socialist International, based in London.

Ela Bhatt

Indian-born activist, founder of India’s Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), the leading international labour, women, and micro-finance movement.

Tore Carlsson

Relative of Bernt Carlsson, former Swedish diplomat, in whose memory One World Action was founded. Bernt died in the Lockerbie aircraft bombing in 1988.

Julie Christie

Indian-born English film actor, active in animal rights, environmental protection, and the anti-nuclear movement, as well as international development.

Tony Clarke

Former postman, Deputy General Secretary from 1981 to 1993 of the Union of Communication Workers. He was a member of the Labour Party’s National Exective Committee from 1983 to 1993 and is now Lord Clarke of Hampstead.

Stanley Clinton-Davies

Member of the UK House of Lords and former European Commissioner for transport and environmental issues, former MP and member of Labour Party government.

Brenda Dean

Baroness Dean of Thornton-le-Fylde, British trade unionist, and former General Secretary of the print union NALGO.

Meghnad Desai

Member of UK House of Lords, Professor of economics at the London School of Economics. Has a strong interest in politics, poverty and international economic development.

Alf Dubs

Local Councillor serving on the Area Authority and Mental Health Trust. Has campaigned on human rights, immigration, civil liberties, energy, and constitutional reform. Former Chair of the Nicaragua Health Fund which merged with One World Action in 1994.

Nawal El Saadawi

Leading Egyptian feminist, sociologist, journalist and writer on Arab women’s problems.

Ben Elton

British stand-up comedian, screen writer and successful novelist.

Barbara Follett

Jamaican-born British politician, former Labour MP and former Chair of the Parliamentary Labour Party, Women’s Committee.

Denis Healey

Member of UK House of Lords, one of the most influential British politicians. Former Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Wangari Maathai

Kenyan-born environmental and political activist. She was the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 for her contributions to sustainable development, democracy and peace. She is the founder of the Green Belt Movement.

Bill Morris

Jamaican-born, he is Britain’s first black trade union General Secretary. He is a member of the UK House of Lords. He is also a broadcaster covering current social, political and economic issues.

Neil Mullarkey

British actor, writer, improviser, workshop leader, and keynote speaker, founder-member of the Comedy Store Players.

Emma Rothchild

British economic historian, professor, Chair of the UN Research Institute for Social Development and the UN Foundation Board Exective Committee.

Antony Sher

South African-born British actor, writer, novelist and artist. He received a Knighthood for his services to the arts in 2000.

Jon Snow

Broadcaster, journalist, writer, main presenter of UK’s Channel 4 News. He is the Chairman of the New Horizon Youth Centre and Deputy Chairman of the Media Trust.

Juliet Stevenson

English stage and screen actor. She was awarded the CBE in 1999. She is a member of the RADA Council.

Emma Thompson

Award-winning British actor, comedian, screenwriter, mother. She is an activist for a number of causes, including international development.

Andimba Ya Toivo

Namibian politician, founder of the Ovamboland People’s Congress( OPC). Was active in the independence movement.
