Call for Nominations - One Hundred Unseen Powerful Women Who Change the World

70% of the world’s poorest people are women. Empowering women is essential to development – not only as a human right - but to drive forward economic and social progress.

We want to highlight the achievements of women around the world who make a difference in ways that are not always visible or recognised by asking people to nominate their own examples of unseen women who have made a difference.

The campaign will highlight these innovative modes of leadership and the powerful women who are the driving force behind them. Complementing existing lists of rich and powerful women, we want to shed more light on the ways women can have an impact in many different walks of life and show how women can be, and are, active participants in society leading to positive political, social and economic and change.

What you can do

We are asking you to nominate women you think should be included in our list of one hundred women.

To nominate and for more information please go to: http://oneworldaction.wordpress.com/100-unseen-powerful-women/

What makes a powerful woman?

  • She asks questions and seek answers about how and why things are working
  • She makes decisions and personal judgments based on evidence and personal experience
  • She has an impact and can affect change: the decisions she takes affect other people positively
  • She motivates and inspires other people and acts as a role model for other women and men
  • She persuades and influences
  • She takes risks and will try an untested idea or do something for the first time

The final list will be announced in mid August. Our scope for nominations is broad. Nominees might be activists, artists, inventors, educators, health workers or entrepreneurs. Although international in focus, we are interested in hearing about global women wherever they live – in London or in Lagos - who have made a positive and progressive difference to their communities and their lives. We want the campaign to pay tribute to their efforts to overcome disadvantage and to demonstrate the significant changes women make through their bravery, commitment and leadership.
